3 Easy Ways to be Intentional to Help You Reach Your Goals

Updated: Nov 15, 2021

Being intentional will help you reach your goals so you can create the health, wellness and life you want to live.

I imagine most of you are like my clients. You have goals. Some big goals and also some smaller goals.

Maybe your goals center around the work you do, a side hustle you are starting or working on, health, wellness, fitness, relationships or even spiritual. Hopefully a combination of a few of those.

I was reminded this week by a client I am working with and in my own life of why you must be intentional if you want to reach your goals.

Listen in or read on below for 3 easy ways to be intentional to help you reach your goals.

Here's what happened with me. I walked my Labrador Retriever, Kali, a mile twice a day until she was about 14 ½ years old. Then she really slowed down. I had to let her go when she was 15. I got out of the routine of walking 2 miles a day. Originally, I thought the walks were for her but I realized that I really benefited both emotionally and physically from them as well.

I let other things move into the time slots that she and I walked. I had to be intentional about creating time in my schedule to take walks again.

For my client that I am working with on health, wellness and lifestyle she realized that when she goes to the grocery store, she must be intentional about not buying those foods that she now knows are not good for her body and create inflammation that may cause her to gain or hold onto weight.

So, how can you be more intentional with your goals?

You will need to find what works best for you, but here are a few ideas:

Schedule it.

For instance if fitness is a goal then make sure it is scheduled on your calendar. Set a reminder or alarm in your phone for your exercise class, to go for a walk or just get up and move.

This time on your calendar is for you. It is a non-negotiable. You are making yourself a priority.

If you go to a class then put your exercise clothes out the night before, put any extra equipment needed in the car and have your water bottle filled and ready to go.

If you schedule it, set reminders and prepare ahead of time to go then you are setting yourself up for success mentally and physically.

Side note, if you are just starting to exercise again slowly build up to how many days a week you want to work out. Be realistic but also challenging. You don’t want to burnout or get overly sore so you don't continue. Perhaps add a day each week until you are exercising the amount of days you want each week.

Have a plan.

As an example, if health is your goal then when you go to the grocery store have a plan. Prepare a menu for the week. Only put those things on your shopping list that you need to prepare the recipes on your menu and healthy staples you want to replace or buy.

Buy only those things on your shopping list. Don’t put things on your list that you know aren’t healthy and don’t grab the yummy cookies you love. Just keep walking. :)

It doesn’t mean you will never have those cookies again. Just not yet. We both know deprivation will only make us crave them more.

Bonus! By sticking to your grocery shopping list, it will also help you save money!

Visualize achieving your goal.

This exercise works great with any category of your goals, you can intentionally visualize each of your goals using all 5 of your senses, how you will feel when you accomplish them as well as how you will celebrate!

For each goal go through the list below and pretend that you have already achieved your goal:

· What do you see?

· What do you hear?

· How do you feel?

· What do you smell?

· What do you taste?

· How will you celebrate?

This exercise is very powerful and highly impactful for reaching your goals. I recommend doing this activity at least once or twice a week with each goal. More often if you can.

There are many ways to be intentional to help you set yourself up for success in reaching your goals.

Also, don't forget to celebrate! Don't dwell on what you didn't accomplish. Celebrate what you did accomplish big or small each week. This step is very important!!

I am curious how are you intentional in your life? Are these things you do or are they something that you will incorporate?

Let me know. I would love to hear.
