Have you ever had a big goal that you wanted to make happen and after a week or two maybe a month you just let it go?
Maybe you gave up.
You’re not alone!
So many people have goals that are important or maybe even imperative for their health and they never achieve them.
What could you do differently this time to make that goal happen?
Bring a goal to mind that you would really like to accomplish.
Listen in or read on below for several very important ingredients to add to that goal.
You must come up with a big enough reason why you want to reach this goal to help you stay motivated.
If you want to eat better or lose weight so you are healthier that may not be a big enough Why.
Because I don’t want to get sick may also not be big enough.
Digging a little deeper into Why you want to be healthier will help you stay on track when the going gets tough.
Maybe so I don’t die of cancer and suffer in the hospital like my dad did is getting a lot closer to your Why.
What's your Why?
Break it down.
Most people can’t just jump into their big goal and do it 100% on day one. If you can, you probably aren’t reading this right now. ;)
Let’s say your big goal is eating healthier. How could you break that down?
There are many ways to approach this goal. But you want to take it at the pace that is challenging but not overwhelming for you so that you keep moving forward toward your goal.
So maybe it is adding a healthy salad at one dinner a week, 3 dinners a week or every dinner each night.
Find a starting point and baby step from there. Baby steps will get you to your goal.
Make it fun!
How could you make the process of achieving your goal more fun?
If you make it fun you are more likely to stay motivated.
Perhaps your goal is to exercise 5 days per week. You currently don’t exercise at all; the thought of exercise gives you hives and you don’t like to sweat. But you know to be healthier you really must incorporate some exercise into your life.
Maybe start calling it movement and not exercise will make it more inviting.
Find a movement you like to do. Perhaps you loved to dance when you were a child. Find a favorite catchy song and just sway to it. Then add another song. Then maybe you move your arms and feet to the beat.
Just take baby steps toward whatever you choose.
Celebration may be one of the most important ingredients for success!
Make sure you take the time to recognize your accomplishments big or small toward your goal at least weekly.
If you got off the couch and turned on the music and that was all you did celebrate that first step.
You are on your way! Next week you may add swaying or moving to the beat.
Do not forget to add this special ingredient - Celebration!
