Did you know that holistic dentistry was even an option?
I ‘m not sure that many people do.
I thought about this on the way to my appointment with my holistic dentist this week.
I switched to a holistic dentist about 5 years ago and I am so glad I did!
The health of your mouth is very important to the health of your whole body.
Therefore, taking care of the health of your mouth is very important to your overall health.
Listen in or read on below for a few reasons why a holistic dentist may be a great option for your health.
Holistic Dentists Look at your Body as a Whole
Your teeth are a part of your body and can’t be looked at separately from your body. Really no part of your body should be viewed separately from the rest. They all work together to keep you alive.
When you have infection in your mouth it can easily be spread to other parts of your body.
Each tooth is tied to a meridian. Each meridian runs to a certain part of your body. It’s like a super highway.
Here's a link to a Teeth Meridian Chart showing which organs and systems tie to which teeth.
So, if you have a problem with a molar on the bottom that is tied to your spleen and that molar was infected then the toxins from the infection may be traveling right to the spleen.
When I work with clients, I always talk to them about the importance of the health of their mouth especially if they are experiencing serious illnesses or diseases.
Don’t let any infections or issues in your mouth go unchecked.
Holistic Dentists Use Non-Toxic Materials
Holistic Dentistry doesn’t use amalgam fillings (silver fillings) which are known to have a questionable metal, mercury, in them.
Mercury vapors are created whenever something warm like coffee is drank or you brush your teeth over this amalgam silver filling. These vapors easily pass through the blood brain barrier. The vapors don’t have too far to travel since they are in your mouth and already in your head.
The vapors may cause you to have issues such as behavior changes, lack of coordination, irritability, fatigue, headaches and even death to name a few. Often the causes of these symptoms are not tied back to the silver fillings in your mouth.
These fillings can be replaced with a composite non-metal resin, which are non-toxic, durable and look natural.
My mom was in her late 60’s when she had her amalgam fillings replaced with a composite resin.
Over the course of a few months her eye-sight improved significantly, her glasses prescription changed dramatically and her eye doctor was amazed!
Holistic Dentists Use Modern Techniques
As the dental hygienist cleaned my teeth, she also used a device that sprayed a very fine stream of water along my gum line and between my teeth. The water contained ozone. Ozone creates an oxygen rich environment which promotes healing and reduces inflammation.
They have also used products in my mouth that contain probiotics.
Your mouth, like your gut, has its own ecosystem of bacteria that needs to be taken good care of.
Other techniques and technology holistic dentists use are laser therapy, DNA testing for genetic predisposition to certain materials as well as metal free fillings, implants, bridges and dentures.
They also have regenerative techniques that can be used to help the body naturally heal itself.
Holistic Dentists look at the whole body and promote prevention through taking care of your body and your teeth.
Keeping a healthy mouth is very important to keeping the health of your whole body.
